Department of Veterans Affairs

The Senate is expected to confirm Dr. David Shulkin - President Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs. He's the only holdover from the Obama administration on the Trump cabinet. He would also be the first non-veteran to lead the VA.

President Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs is unusual in a couple of different ways. Dr. David Shulkin would be the first hold-over from the Obama administration. He will also be the first non-veteran to lead the VA. A physician by trade, Shulkin has held the position of Under-Secretary of Health for the VA since 2015. If Shulkin is confirmed by the Senate as expected, is he prepared to deal with the complex management challenges in a department that’s been troubled by recent scandals? American Homefront's Bobbie O'Brien of WUSF in Tampa discusses Trump’s pick with host John Hockenberry on PRI's "The Takeaway."
