Missing Soldiers

Scientific advances have allowed the Army to identify about 200 sets of remains each year - dating back to World War II. But the passage of time has complicated the process of finding families to accept the remains.

After a string of high-profile deaths and disappearances, the Army is trying harder to find soldiers who fail to report for duty.

Advocates say the Army is too quick to write off soldiers as deserters when they don't show up for duty. That can delay searches when a service member disappears because of an accident, suicide, or abduction.
